Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week
A Time to Recognize and Celebrate
Join Us in Honoring Heroes of Animal Care & Control!
Every year, the National Animal Care & Control Association (NACA) proudly supports Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week, a time dedicated to recognizing the hardworking professionals who protect animals and serve our communities. These officers work tirelessly and often in challenging and dangerous conditions to ensure the safety of both people and animals.
Why This Week Matters
Animal Control Officers (ACOs) do more than just enforce laws. They are first responders for animals in need, providing lifesaving care, rescuing the lost, preventing cruelty, and educating the public. Just like other public safety and law enforcement professionals, they deserve a moment in the spotlight for their dedication and sacrifices.
How to Celebrate & Show Appreciation
1. Make it Official
Public Proclamation: Kick off the week with a local official declaration from a mayor, city council, or other leaders. Highlight the crucial role of ACOs and recognize their service to the community.
Press & Media Spotlight: Contact news outlets, radio stations, and social media influencers to share stories about the impact of Animal Control Officers in your area.
2. Show Your Gratitude
Community & Department Support: Encourage local government offices, police, fire, and health departments to participate by:
- Sending thank-you cards, flowers, or snacks to ACOs.
- Hosting a team breakfast, lunch, or appreciation event to recognize their work.
- Posting social media shout-outs to thank the officers in your city.
Employee of the Year Award: Present a certificate or plaque to an outstanding ACO who has gone above and beyond in their duties.
3. Engage with the Community
Behind-the-Scenes Content: Share a “Day in the Life” series on social media to showcase the work of ACOs and shelter staff. (We’d love to see these pictures as well! Email submissions to naca@nacanet.org)
Adoption & Education Events: Organize low-cost vaccine clinics, pet microchipping days, or community Q&A sessions to build relationships between Animal Control and the public.
Ride-Alongs & Shadowing: Invite local officials, students, or media representatives to experience a day in the field with an ACO.
4. End the Week with a Celebration
Agency Appreciation Party: Wrap up the week with a relaxed gathering featuring cake, refreshments, and recognition speeches for the team.
Shoutout on Social Media: Post team photos, success stories, and highlight the special moments from the week.
