Field Services Leadership

NACA & HSUS Law Enforcement Training Center Leadership Academy

The Humane Society of the United States’ Law Enforcement Training Center (HSUS) and the National Animal Care & Control Association (NACA) are excited to bring you the Field Services Leadership Course—a free, dynamic, and interactive program designed to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and strategies essential for effective leadership in animal control. The inaugural academy, held in January 2024, successfully graduated animal and field services officers from 28 agencies, emphasizing leadership development, data analysis and reporting, public relations, and managing compassion fatigue.

We are thrilled to continue this partnership. NACA members will receive an email with the application link once it opens so be sure to check your email for more details as they become available. Not a NACA member yet but want to take the course? Join today and seize the opportunity to elevate your leadership skills with this invaluable program.

Hear from our first academy class below:

“I loved (the Change Management) section. I had a semester long course in change management but preferred this simplified version… This was so relevant to my job and current state as well as personal life. I wish more managers in Animal Services had these steps to follow.”

“(Data and Root Cause Analysis) was the one class that ‘I did not need, and it does not apply to my role, and I attended because it was required.’ I was completely wrong with my assessment. I learned an incredible new way to analyze circumstances and how to identify solutions.”

“I would recommend this (academy) to all current and aspiring leaders.”

“The items covered were concrete topics I could physically implement to better my agency. We measure the things that matter.”
