2010 NACA Board Recruitment
Application deadline: November 23, 2009
NACA needs hard working, intelligent people to serve on its Board of Directors. Are you interested in serving your fellow professionals as well as developing your own professional skills by working with NACA, one of the most accomplished and respected national animal care and control organizations? Serving on the NACA Board of Directors is both an honor and a privilege. NACA represents more than 5,000 Animal Care and Control Professionals from around the world. As a member of the Board, you will have a voice for our members.
Each year, people like you are elected by your peers to serve on the NACA Board of Directors. What does it take to achieve this? The NACA bylaws outline the election process for you. All NACA Board members shall seek out and notify the Secretary/Treasurer of qualified candidates. The Secretary/Treasurer shall verify the eligibility status and inform each candidate of the duties and responsibilities of a Board Member.
To become a nominee, a candidate shall inform the Secretary/Treasurer in writing that they will serve if elected and they understand and will abide by the Bylaws and rules of the National Animal Control Association. In addition, the nominee shall provide the Corporate Office with a current photograph in electronic format of themselves, along with their resume of 100 words or less included as part of their completed application. The nominee’s information will be available for review by the membership at minimum on the NACA Web site prior to the annual meeting.
To be eligible to serve on the Board of Directors, you must:
- Be an active member in good standing.
- Not be an employee of NACA or any organization, business entity or individual which competes with NACA training functions, evaluations, publications, training conferences or consulting.
- Have at least five (5) years experience in the animal control field.
- Have never been convicted of a felony, moral turpitude or offences related to animals.
- Not have been previously removed from the Board of Directors in accordance with Article IX, Section 6, Removal and Suspension. If so, said member is ineligible for reelection to the Board of Directors.
Attendance at one or more Annual NACA Training Conferences is highly recommended so that you are familiar with the workings of NACA. As a member in good standing, you are qualified to submit an application for a Board position to be determined by the voting NACA members at the election during the business meeting at the Annual Conference.
What to expect:
- Four (4) Directors shall be elected by the general membership via electronic voting process.
- Electronic Voting will start 10 days prior to the start of the annual training conference and shall end at the conclusion of the annual business meeting.
- Directors shall be elected to three (3) year terms.
- Terms of office shall commence at the close of the annual meeting.
- You will be required to attend at least two Board meetings a year. The first one is held at the close of the Annual Training Conference and the second meeting is held in the fall at the Corporate Office in Olathe, Kansas.
- You will be asked by the President to serve on committees. Most business is handled via e-mail, although occasionally long distance phone calls will have to be made.
- You will be required to maintain an individual membership for NACA.
- You will be required to agree to, and sign, the NACA “Duties to the Corporation Agreement,” which details the fiduciary duty, duty of care and duty of loyalty to the Corporation.
- Costs - Once elected, if your organization can support your trips to meetings, the NACA membership will very much appreciate it. However, we know that this is not always possible; therefore, NACA does provide a travel budget for those whose agencies cannot fund travel to NACA meetings.
- In order to be elected to the Board, you must be present at the Annual Training Conference. (NACA does not cover the costs for that conference.)
- The Secretary/Treasurer shall introduce the nominees to the Board of Directors at the pre-conference meeting the day before the annual conference begins.
- The nominees are encouraged to campaign, promoting their individual experience and skills and getting to know as many eligible NACA voters as possible prior to the election.
- The Secretary/Treasurer shall present the nominees at the annual business meeting during the conference.
- Each nominee shall speak at the annual meeting for no more than five (5) minutes prior to the election.
- Nominees must be present to win.
